TrendForce’s latest findings reveal that global installations of EV traction inverters reached 6.45 million units in 2Q24, marking a 24% increase from the previous quarter. The growth was primarily driven by hybrid vehicles (including HEVs and PHEVs). Among the EV powertrains, PHEVs led with a 26% quarterly increase in installations, while BEVs followed with an 18% increase.
TrendForce’s latest findings show that global sales of NEVs—including BEVs, PHEVs, and FCVs—reached 3.769 million units in 2Q24. This represents a nearly 30% quarterly growth and a 24.2% YoY increase. While Tesla maintained its position as the leader in BEV market share, its sales declined compared to last year. BYD, in addition to its steady BEV sales, saw its PHEV market share surpass 36% in Q2.
TrendForce reports that global AR device shipments are projected to reach 25.5 million units by 2030—with a CAGR of 67% from 2023 to 2030—thanks to product planning by AR brands and the advancement of AI technology and application ecosystems. Among these, the penetration of LEDoS technology is expected to rise significantly, reaching 44% by 2030, making it the mainstream technology in the market.
The EU has initiated provisional countervailing duties on Chinese-made BEVs as of July 4, 2024. While new tariff percentages have been announced, they show minimal change from the rates published on June 12. The tariffs include 17.4% for BYD, 19.9% for Geely, and 37.6% for SAIC. Additionally, automakers identified as cooperating with the investigation but not sampled will face a 20.8% tariff—affecting a total of 13 companies—while other automakers not listed will be subject to a 37.6% tariff.
TrendForce’s latest data on the global EV inverter market shows that the traditional off-season for EVs led to a significant drop in traction inverter installations in 1Q24, reaching just 5.22 million units—a 27% decrease from 7.14 million units in 4Q23. BEVs accounted for 48% of these installations, down 5% from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, the share for HEVs and PHEVs increased from 47% to 52%, highlighting that range anxiety continues to be a key concern for consumers when purchasing vehicles.
